Testimonials

Becky day review pup

"Hugh from House 'n Hounds has been looking after Alfie while I'm out at work. He comes round for a couple of hours, plays with him, feeds him and just spends time with him so that he's not on his own for too long. Hugh is so caring and professional and he has an amazing connection with dogs. I would thoroughly recommend House 'N' Hounds."

FAQ's

What services do you offer?

House ‘N’ Hounds specialises in dog walking, pet home visits for dogs, cats and small animals and many more. Please view our pet services page for more information. We are happy to discuss other services on an individual basis.

How do I go about booking one of your services?

Please get in touch and we’ll call you back to discuss your requirements. We will then arrange a pre-meet visit for a free initial consultation, either in your home, our house or on neutral ground.  If you are happy to proceed, we complete the registration process together and discuss a personal plan tailored to your individual needs.

What is the difference between Pet visiting, Pet sitting, House sitting or a Dog Boarding service?

Pet visits - We pop into your home to check on your pet, give them food and fresh water, change litter, replace bedding, let them out to relieve themselves and give them plenty of fuss and attention. These visits are usually around 30 minutes long.

Pet sitting - We will come and stay in your home – e.g., overnight, long weekends or holidays

House Sitting - We will stay in your house to provide security while you are away. This can be combined with looking after your pets. We can provide additional services while we are there e.g., watering plants, mowing the lawn, clearing post, taking deliveries & drawing curtains.

Dog Boarding  - Your pet comes to stay at our home. We are licensed to board one dog at a time or two from the same household.

Do I need to provide anything?

Your dog must be microchipped. Please ensure your dog has a collar with ID tag. If you use a halti/head collar or harness, please ensure this is on hand for us to use. Similarly, if your dog requires a coat please make this available.

For dog boarding we will require you to provide their food, treats, bedding, and any medication plus any toys that they may want.

How much do you charge?

Our prices are listed on our pet prices page for the services we offer as standard. If you have any special requests, please get in touch and we will always try and help.

What areas do you cover?

We are based in Hordle, Lymington and will travel throughout Southern Hampshire and East Dorset areas although please get in touch as we will consider travelling elsewhere.

Do you offer one-to-one walks?

Yes. We prefer to give 1:1 attention to our dogs but we will walk them with other dogs if we are happy that they will get on with other dogs.

Do I need to be at home when you collect or drop off my dog?

No. We are fully police DBS checked and therefore our clients are happy to provide a spare set of keys or install a “Key Safe” on the outside of their property.

Are you fully insured?

Yes. House ‘N’ Hounds are fully insured with Pet Business Insurance UK. Please ask to see a copy of our certificate.

What if I need to cancel a booking?

If you are booking us for House/Pet Sitting or Dog Boarding, we ask for a 30% non-refundable deposit 1 month before the booking with the remainder to be paid within 28 days after your return. For dog walks and pet visits we will invoice you (with 28 days to settle) after the event, or if you are a regular then either weekly or monthly depending on what suits you. As a small business, we really appreciate it if our clients give us as much notice of cancellation as possible. If you cancel a dog walk or pet visit less than 48 hours prior to the booking, you will be charged in full.

How do I know my pet is happy & doing ok?

After our walk or visit, we will always send you a brief update – often with a photograph – to reassure you that your pet is happy and content. We like to give you peace of mind, so you can get on with your day.

My pet needs medication. Can you assist?

We will administer medication as per your written instructions. If we are unable to do this, we will contact you immediately. If your pet has an ongoing medical condition, we will discuss this during the initial consultation and we may require your written permission to give medication, along with full instructions.

What happens in case of an emergency?

In the unlikely event of an emergency, we will contact you immediately. We take your emergency contact details including your vet and insurance details when you register with us. If necessary, we will take your pet to your named vet or the closest possible vet, depending on the circumstances. We are trained to give basic first aid.

Do you walk female dogs that are in season?

In these circumstances, we will walk your dog on their own and on the lead and will exercise your dog in a quiet area away from other dogs. We cannot be held responsible should your dog become pregnant.

Alternatively, we are more than happy to visit your dog and play with her and exercise her in the garden.

Do you walk dogs off the lead?

Your dog’s safety and wellbeing is our main priority. While we’re getting to know your dog and they’re getting to know us, we prefer to walk them on the lead.

Once both we and your dog are comfortable with recall, we can offer off-lead walks. Please note, we only walk dogs off-lead if the consent form has been signed by yourself.

Do you walk all dog breeds?

Yes, we are happy to walk all dog breeds who have been well socialised and are not of an aggressive nature. If we are not happy with the behaviour or temperament of your dog, we may decline from taking you on as a client.

Do you give treats?

We will discuss your preferences for treats with you during our meet & greet. Generally, we offer treats for dogs as a recall incentive or to reinforce good behaviour.

We can offer treats during pet visits or pet sitting in accordance with your instructions. Please let us know if your pet has special dietary requirements/allergies.

I have two dogs, do you offer a discount?

Yes, we offer a discount for a second pet from the same household.

I have an exotic pet. Do you look after them too?

Yes, we will look after some exotic pet at our discretion. They do require some special handling, feeding and care, and we will require detailed information on this and possibly some training from you.
